Walk around the car and photograph every panel, the windscreen, the wheels and the dashboard (mileage and fuel). Timestamped photos settle most deposit disputes.

• Tyre tread and pressure, including the spare
• Headlights, indicators, brake lights and wipers
• Air conditioning and seatbelts working
• Insurance sticker and vehicle documents in the car
